Initially Leanne is confident with the other woman's decisions, even if she's gripping onto the side of the boat with such vigor that she may end up tearing a piece out of sheer anxiety. Eyes concentrating on the water and what she can visibly see, peering into the depths and ultimately flinching back in surprise when there's moments of light.
And then it stills.
Everything within those seconds becomes quiet, far too quiet, to the point that it makes her entire body physically ache. ]
Alisaie! [ She shouts again, yet this time panic courses through her and Leanne finds herself leaping--doing something foolish--into the water. She can't fuckin' swim but her boo needs her!?!?! HELLO!?!?!? ]
[ SHE WON'T... She can at least doggy paddle... barely...
So when she sees Alisaie resurface there's a look of both relief and frustration. Don't make her panic so much that she ends up doing stupid things?? ]
No, I was trying to go after you. [ She holds onto her with one arm. ] But then I remembered that I still haven't learned how to swim.
You can't blame me, I saw blood and I didn't know if it was coming from you or that monster! [ She climbs into the boat, thanks to Alisaie's efforts, releasing an exhausted sigh as she leans against the wood. ] I'm gonna have to learn some day, y'know...
[ Preferably not in serpent infested waters but yeah. ]
[ She huffs. He's right, of course, and she can't argue against that, so rather than persist she decides to help with what she can. Rolling a piece of stray serpent towards her and examining it before noticing some scales she could easily pry off.
Carefully, of course, as she doesn't want the ruin them any further. ]
I just don't like the idea of taking the whole thing when we both worked for it. [ Said with a short tilt of her head. Her hand flinches back, gloved fingers having pricked against a sharp edge of the scale that earns a hiss of discomfort. ] See? That's my luck running out because you won't take your cut.
[ He squints at her, both because of the sudden injury and the interesting thread of her logic. He has a small pile of teeth beside him now, bloodstained but not cracked, likely perfectly serviceable for any vendor who might want them. ]
I will keep some teeth if that will satisfy you.
[ He reaches into the pouches at his waist, frowning as he pulls out a shimmering roll of bandages. ]
[ She stops to question it, too, and perhaps it's the initial adrenaline still pumping through her veins that made her cancel out the feeling of blood seeping from the open wound. It's nothing life threatening but evident, to which she blinks thrice before looking back at him sheepishly. ] I guess I am... but at least one of us came prepared.
The Shaneiacs of El Nysa are shaking in their boots, all of a sudden it's becoming clear that this tale is becoming more (un)believable. Leanne feigns surprise, even horror, mouth wide and even taking a moment to glance around the immediate area to ensure she's not mistaking a bone with a stick.
Others follow suit. ]
I-I think... you... [ She points to some random ugh. ] You said earlier you found some bones, didn't you?
[ Cain clutches at his chest, fingers curling into his shirt as he loud gasps along with Leanne. It's true, he did find the bones! He did touch them! He's (not) cursed!
Cain lowers his head, like he's so overcome with the horror that he can't take it any longer.
And then he starts laughing. Low, sinister, the sound filling the skull's confines. ]
Ha ha... Ha ha ha ha! So you noticed. [ He looks up and holds his hand out, the fingers curved into claw shapes. ] And now I'm here among you, the wolf among the sheep! And as soon as I touch you, it'll be in you, too!
[ So she noticed! And of course Leanne continues the charade by acting surprised, but it appears that another one in their small group was beginning to scramble back in shock. There's a shriek from beside her and she notices that a man has flat out fainted and the remainder leaving the skull as quickly as they can.
All that's left is Cain, Leanne, and a fainted man. ]
... So, that was fun, but we probably went a bit too far.
[ Cain, too, finds himself staring at the man who's just flat out fainted. Huh. He leans over and nudges the man's shoulder, but the man doesn't budge.
...was the story really that scary?
Slowly, sheepishly, he turns to look at Leanne. ]
Ah... Maybe a little? We should probably apologize.
I should be thanking you, you did most of the work. [ But that doesn't mean she's going to brush off her thanks. Leanne soon nods with a light smile on her face. ] It's no problem, really, we girls gotta stick together.
[ And her lips curl into a brighter smile. ]
I'm Leanne, by the way! I was with the first group of people who, uh, woke up. I wouldn't say I know the absolute ends of this world but I've gotten a little more adjusted here over the past few months.
I wouldn't know how to finish the job if it weren't for you. I've never gone camping before.
[leanne's kindness is keeping babydoll smiling, because it's true. girls do need to stick together -- it's how she survived the awful place where she came from.]
Babydoll, [she holds out her hand to shake leanne's, a rare formality.] I just got here. If you could tell me more about this place, I would really appreciate it.
[ Rare, yes, and in fact Leanne can't remember the last time she properly shook hands with another individual. The realization might be a little silly to take note of but she at least isn't leaving Babydoll hanging as she reaches out and gives her hand a firm shake. ]
Ah, well, so this is the planet of El Nysa and by the looks of it... we're close to Wyver no doubt. That's one of the big "kingdoms", you could call them, here, the other being Olympia. Getting there would take a day from Wyver so they're surprisingly not that far apart.
Kingdoms. Okay. [she repeats the word, nodding slowly. she's beginning to understand more, bit by bit.] Are they at peace with one another?
[all the books she'd read to her sister would lead her to believe that no, opposing kingdoms do not get along. el nysa could be an exception, but...she's doubting it.]
[ Obviously sarcasm, and she isn't going to make any room for clarification because she believes her tone of voice should be evidence enough.
She's aiming for a clear amount of space for the two of them to rest, preferably against something, and she finds a nice spot that's still within distance of the skull but not right next to it. A rock large enough that she could at least be content using it as the most solid cushion imaginable against her back. ]
This should be good enough. [ And she's removing her jacket, if only to give them something they can both sit on as she lays it beside the rock. ] There we go!
[ She has to point it out in a somewhat grumpy tone. It's whatever though because she will get over it in a couple of seconds and her focus will drift elsewhere, like following Leanne.
It is tempting for her to point out that her jacket will just get dirty if it's on the wrong, but A2 bites her tongue because it's easy to see that she knows what she's doing. ]
[ From her perspective it all looks clear, the shadow quickly escaping from their boat. ]
I don't think so, but it doesn't look like it's wanting to put up a fight... probably thought we were easy pickings. [ She huffs, and she'd take actual offense if it wasn't clear that her confident offense drove the creature away. ] Though I definitely don't wanna sit and find out so it's better if we keep going.
[ Reaching for her share of oars, Leanne sits back inside the boat and helps start rowing. ]
Makes sense. It may be wishful thinking but hopefully it tells all its friends to back off than try messing with us again, I honestly want a smooth trip back home, don't you?
